Idea Exchange/Brainstorming Session Scheduled

On March 22nd, the Dublin Music Boosters is hosting an Idea Exchange/Brainstorming session for all of the Booster Committees from each of the three High Schools in Dublin. This will be a time for the Chairs of each committee to meet and share ideas on how they plan, organize, and implement the work of their committees.

Prior to this session, if you have any comments, concerns, or ideas on how we could do our job of “promoting music education in the Dublin City Schools” better, please contact your School Vice President, the Committee Chair or myself  so we can share your ideas with the appropriate people during that meeting. Our contact information is listed on this website.

Combined Middle and High School Jazz Band Concert

Jazz BandThe Davis Middle School Jazz Band and Scioto High School Jazz Band recently presented a combined concert for family and friends.  After only eleven rehearsals the 36 member Davis Jazz Band skillfully performed Embraceable You, Oye Como Va and Play That Funky Music with the Percussion Ensemble playing Carol of the Cowbells.  The high school jazz band presented the pieces Pecking Order, Pedal to the Metal, This Space for Rent and Brass Machine which included an impressive trumpet solo performed by senior Passion Osemwengie.  The combined bands gave an excellent rendition of Jump giving the members the opportunity to see how far they’ve come in their musical experience or how far they will go in the future.

Dublin Scioto Holiday Concert

Tis the season for holiday concerts and the Dublin Scioto Music Department presented an exceptional performance on December 10th.  The unexpected treat of the evening was performed by Irish Fiddle Fetish participants as they executed energetic Irish, Scottish and American Blue Grass fiddle pieces.  The audience participation only added to the fun the student players themselves seemed to be having.

Davis Middle School performs fall concerts

Davis Middle SchoolThe Davis Middle School 7th and 8th grade bands recently performed their fall music concerts to a standing room only crowd.  The 7th grade band performed an excellent concert presenting the pieces Voyageur March by Frank Halferty, Rising Star by Ed Huckeby, Clouds by Anne McGinty and The Debonair Dragon by John Edmondson.  Senior Scioto band member, Taylor Evans, conducted one of the pieces as a part of a music internship under middle school band director, Suzann Barrett.  It’s hard to believe just how far this band has come since first picking up instruments just a little over a year ago.
