Dublin Scioto Holiday Concert
Tis the season for holiday concerts and the Dublin Scioto Music Department presented an exceptional performance on December 10th. The unexpected treat of the evening was performed by Irish Fiddle Fetish participants as they executed energetic Irish, Scottish and American Blue Grass fiddle pieces. The audience participation only added to the fun the student players themselves seemed to be having.
The Chorale ensemble brought the feeling of the holiday into the room with the seasonal selections O Hearken Ye and Bright, Bright the Holly Berries. The Symphonic Choir followed with soft and pretty vocals singing Hodie Christus Natus Est and Candle in the Window.
The all male Tenor, Baritone, Base assemblage performed a fun medley of Christmas tunes titled Christmas….In About Three Minutes. The audience was asked to try and count how many Christmas tunes were represented in the three minutes it took to sing the medley (23). An all female barbershop quartet sang an upbeat and engaging My Santa in a brief scene-changing interlude.
The Soprano, Second Soprano, Alto choir gracefully harmonized its selections Angels Divine, The Rose Tree and Petit Enfant accompanied in part by flutist, Sarah Dauerman. Costumed in colorful medieval garb, the Chamber Choir performed in Away a Manger, Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Exhibiting a playing maturity beyond their years, the audience was entertained by the Dublin Scioto Orchestra executing a smooth and even-flowing Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring by J.S. Bach and Concerto Gross (The Christmas Concerto) Op. 6, No. 8 by Corelli.
The concert ended with an invitation to join the combined choirs and orchestra in singing White Christmas by Irving Berlin. The many talents of these students were evident all evening and inspired the audience to add their voices to the end of a very enjoyable production. Many thanks to Mr. Jim Gray, Mr. Jeff Chesser and Mr. Ron Lewis.
